The World I Want

I keep looking at the clock—

time crawls,

and I feel the ache in my head,

this flu that won’t let go.

But then I see you—

the only medicine

that ever worked.

You risked everything on it,

maybe without knowing,

but I felt it—

I meant that much to you,

even if you didn’t say it out loud.

I like the world

where you and I

are not reasonable people—

where logic fails,

and nothing makes sense

except how we feel.

I don’t want to be a reasonable man.

I want to be a romantic one—

confused by you,

undone by you,

living in that fever-dream

where only our love is true.
