Into One

I sit in silence while your smile occupies all my thought
City lights blur like rain across the water
I move through rooms of glass and distant voices
Still your hand rests somewhere inside my chest
You stand before me, near enough that breath becomes shared air
Your eyes hold mine without release
Gravity folds the universe inward, something sacred fixed in place
The room softens as light withdraws
and darkness settles along your outline
I watch your chest rise and fall in quiet rhythm
The space between us tightens without motion
I move closer until the air becomes warm enough to belong to us
Your gaze moves over me, then returns to claim my eyes
My pulse slows in obedience to your breathing
Your hand hovers near, close enough to disturb what I am
I remain still, waiting inside your choice
You lean forward until our shadows surrender and become one
Your breath glides over the edge of my mouth
My hands remain at my sides, visible, unguarded
I let you witness what I no longer conceal
The air yields before either of us speaks
Your hand arrives with the certainty of fate
My breath falters and forgets its former discipline
Something older than will awakens within me
You draw me across the final distance without force
as though I had always been moving toward you
Your touch inscribes its quiet dominion
and I abandon the last illusion of separation
The world recedes into obedient darkness
Time bends itself around our nearness
I move toward you as rivers yield to the sea
and remain there, claimed by your gravity
Your hand rises and rests against my face at last
the same hand that reached for me across oceans and signal
I lean into you as I did your voice in the dark
and feel distance finally surrender
Your mouth finds mine with the certainty we carried through every night apart
the promise spoken in whispers meant only for us
I answer without hesitation
and hold you where you patiently waited in love
Now there is nothing left between us to survive
no ocean, no silence, no borrowed time
only your body against mine, undeniable and real
two entangled universes collapsing into one body, one mind, one love
